The Irish Computer Society are delighted to announce that Púca’s Tech Week App won the Gold award for Best App for a Live Experience and the Bronze award for Best Educational App at last night’s Appy Awards. The Appy’s (Mobile Application Awards) are Ireland’s premier award for app developers, recognising innovation, creativity and excellence in app design.
Established in 2010, the Appys are run by Alchemy Event Management and were open all apps available on the Island of Ireland.
The Tech Week App was developed in conjunction with Tech Week, a nationwide festival of technology aimed at parents, students and the general public. The event’s main objectives are:
1) to inspire students to engage actively with STEM subjects and equip them with the knowledge and experience to make informed decisions about future subject and career choices;
2) to educate all citizens – of every age group and background – about the challenges and rewards of our fast-changing technological society.
The Tech Week App was free to download at the Tech Week event. It allowed users to participate in quizzes on various aspects of technology including tech history, technology in sport, technology and computing, among many others. Users would be timed and the best times/ scores could be shared on social media (Twitter).
As users completed quizzes, their ‘star rating’ would increase, enabling them to use their ‘activity scanner’ to unlock and participate in more quizzes. To show their involvement with the Tech Week event, users could also snap and post a ‘Tech Week selfie’ of themselves engaging with technology.
The app will be officially recognised among the many other winners in the dozen categories represented at the Appy Awards. Award badges and a trophy will be given to the Irish Computer Society in recognition of their contribution to the project.
Many congratulations to Púca for their outstanding work. We are already looking forward to Tech Week in 2016.
