A new report on IT professionalism in Europe represents a major milestone contributing to the ambition to strengthen and mature the IT profession and increase EU’s digital talent pool. It provides a first comprehensive proposal for an EU framework for IT professionalism, building on the support from industry, education and training. Research carried out for Tech Week 2017 shows that the vast majority of Irish adults (89%) now believe that getting an education in STEM related subjects is important and can lead to better career opportunities in the future. Read more

The Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation, John Halligan TD, today launched Tech Week 2017, Ireland’s national festival of technology aimed at students, parents and the public, which takes place all over Ireland this year from 22-28 April.
Organised by the ICS Foundation, the social enterprise arm of the Irish Computer Society, and sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland, this exciting week of events will see more than 100,000 students take part in a range of fun activities, including the finals of several Tech Week events. Read more

It compares institutions and practices in evidence-based policy-making, as well as the accessibility, and mediation, of evidence. The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten, T.D., has awarded €2.2m to 15 community and not-for-profit organisations to provide basic digital skills training to people under his Department’s new Digital Skills for Citizens Grant Scheme.
