Minister Bruton has published the Digital Learning Framework for Schools, one of the key supports envisaged under the Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020. In implementing the Digital Learning Framework, schools and teachers are given a structure which will allow them to identify where they are on the journey towards embedding digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment, and enable them to progress in that journey. The OpenQAsS project vision is to utilise the potential of today’s networking technology in all areas of the implementation of the EQAVET Reference Framework principles, and so make the resulting tools part of the daily practice of institutional Quality Assurance in VET schools.
The ICS Skills partner Multiplier Event was held on the 29th March. 22 professionals attended, as an additional session after a presentation on the general area of quality assurance, with a focus on ECDL training, assessment and the integrity of the programme. The attendees were varied, from the Further Education sector, secondary schools, private training centres and special needs training facilities. Read more

A new report on IT professionalism in Europe represents a major milestone contributing to the ambition to strengthen and mature the IT profession and increase EU’s digital talent pool. It provides a first comprehensive proposal for an EU framework for IT professionalism, building on the support from industry, education and training. It is aiming at contributing to further deliver on the potential of the Digital Single Market strategy and improve the EU’s position on a competitive IT talent market. Read more

Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor, T.D., today officially launched Ireland’s National Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition. The initiative forms part of the Skills Agenda for Europe which is being promoted across all EU Member States by the European Commission. This report describes the mechanisms and practices that support evidence-based policy-making in the education sector in Europe. It provides an initial mapping of a complex area. It compares institutions and practices in evidence-based policy-making, as well as the accessibility, and mediation, of evidence. The European Commission’s e-Skills awareness raising campaigns, launched in 2010, have contributed to reduce the gap in the European Union between demand and supply of digital skills jobs. The Irish Computer Society was delighted to host a Japanese delegation on Monday 10th October in order to explore European and Japanese competence frameworks. Mr. Eiji Hayashiguchi, Chief Advisory and Mr. Osamu Endo, Group Leader, represented the Information-technology Promotion Agency of Japan (IPA), an organisation affiliated organization to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). One of IPA’s three key focus areas is to grow quality IT human resources resulting in the development of the IPA i-Competency Dictionary. Read more
