The 2016 F1 in Schools World Finals will take place on 16th, 17th and 18th October in Austin, Texas, USA, immediately prior to the 2016 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. 39 teams of students from 23 countries will be presenting their cars, unveiling their pit displays and then race their mini replica Formula 1 cars against each other for the coveted ‘Bernie Ecclestone World Champions Trophy’. There are two teams representing Ireland at the 2016 World Championships event and we would like to wish them the very best of luck!
Ireland will be represented by last season’s overall National Champions, Marist Hurricanes from Marist College, Athlone, Co. Westmeath (pictured above), as well as Supermac’s Racing from St. Bridgets College, Loughrea, Co. Galway, the runners up in the senior category.
Both teams have worked tirelessly since the National Finals in late April to prepare for the World Finals. They will meet 20 judges over the four day competition and will be scrutinised under a wide range of criteria from their engineering and designs skills to their project management and marketing abilities. To date they have raised impressive amounts though sponsorship, cake sales, table quizzes and everything in between.
F1 in Schools’ main aim is to help change perceptions on science, technology, engineering and maths. By creating a fun and exciting learning environment, young people will develop an interest in a career in these areas.
ICS would like to wish the best of luck to all teams involved!
